Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Assembly Commission, pursuant to AQW 5405/22-27, whether the formal inspections that are taking place include a health and safety audit.
Assembly Commission: The Assembly Commission has been monitoring problems with damp ingress related to the roof project and all affected areas are kept under regular review. Following a worsening of the problems in some areas earlier this year, monthly inspections now take place and a report is maintained with a formal record of any deterioration that has taken place since the last assessment, details of any further problems that arise and actions that have been required as a result.
These monthly inspections include an assessment of any health and safety risks arising from the damp ingress problems and where necessary, mitigating measures are introduced.
As noted in AQW 5405/22-27, the Assembly Commission has issued proceedings against two parties for negligence, breach of statutory duty and breach of contract. Expert witnesses employed by the Assembly Commission have assessed all of the affected areas and proposals have been submitted for further investigatory works to take place to help determine the source of the damp ingress problem(s) so that remedial repairs can be undertaken.
