AQW 12789/22-27 – Raw sewage spills from the Wastewater Treatment Works at Clonoe

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure, following the Speaker’s Ruling on Assembly Questions on 12 March 2024, and pursuant to AQW 10670/22-27, to detail NI Water’s plans to prevent frequent raw sewage spills from the Wastewater Treatment Works at Clonoe, County Tyrone.

Minister for Infrastructure: The management of the wastewater treatment works at Clonoe, known as Coalisland wastewater treatment works (WwTW), is an operational matter for NI Water. However, I have sought the requested information from NI Water and have been advised as follows:

During the last year, NI Water has undertaken a number of operational interventions to improve the day to day performance of the works. In conjunction to the work already completed, NI Water has plans to install additional equipment to improve the reliability of the works. It is hoped that this work will be completed during the next financial year, however, that is dependent on the availability of funding.
These interventions will have a beneficial impact on the operation of Coalisland WwTW at Clonoe.

For any future queries relating to operational matters, you should contact NI Water directly, through the Elected Representatives Hotline on 0345 300 6461 or through waterline@niwater.com

Making direct contact with NI Water will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make best use of limited public resources.
