AQW 18502/22-27 – Wastewater treatment works flow rate within Lough Neagh catchment area

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any wastewater treatment works facilities that are not capable of delivering the rate of flow they were designed for (i) within the Lough Neagh catchment area; and (ii) across Northern Ireland as a whole.

Minister for Infrastructure: The management of public wastewater infrastructure is an operational matter for NI Water. However, I have sought the requested information from NI Water and have been advised as follows:

The measurement of flow is not currently part of NI Water’s regulatory compliance regime and, therefore, NI Water does not have flow monitoring equipment installed widely across its wastewater infrastructure.
However, the Public Private Partnership (PPP) operated wastewater sites have the necessary flow monitoring equipment installed, and NI Water has confirmed that all PPP operated sites can deliver and treat the prescribed rates of flow, except in conditions of mechanical or electrical failure, as permitted within the respective Water Order Consents, issued by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.

For any future queries relating to operational matters, you should contact NI Water directly, through the Elected Representatives Hotline on 0345 300 6461 or through waterline@niwater.com

Making direct contact with NI Water will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make best use of limited public resources.
