AQW 18722/22-27 – Increased water flow to the River Moyola

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any action taken to assess increased water flow to the River Moyola as a result of major road schemes in the area.

Minister for Infrastructure: The A6 Randalstown Castledawson Dualling is a major road project which crosses the Moyola River, constructed between 2017 and 2021. During the early scheme assessment stages, the potential impact on the water environment within the vicinity of the proposed road upgrade was assessed in detail.

A computer-based highway drainage design model was developed and my department also implemented the highway drainage design philosophy principles of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems as set out in the Sustainable Urban Drainage Design Manual for Scotland and Northern Ireland (SUDS Manual).

The drainage infrastructure associated with the A6 upgrade works has resulted in no increased water flow from the road infrastructure to the River Moyola.
