Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Finance, pursuant to AQW 12375/22-27, to detail any actions that have been taken place with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the National Cyber Security Centre to explore the opportunities of Artificial Intelligence.
Minister of Finance: My department has well-established relationships with both the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) which ensures we are well-positioned to understand the opportunities and risks posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
My officials regularly engage with the Central Digital & Data Office (CDDO), part of DSIT, on AI developments and have used shared learning and code to develop pilot projects within my department. In October 2024, my department arranged for the CDDO to present and host a panel on AI at the recent Technology Forum in Belfast.
Similarly, my officials work closely with the NCSC which helps to identify interventions to mitigate cyber security risks in AI and explore opportunities to enhance our cyber resilience using AI. In June 2024, my department updated the security schedules within the terms and conditions of NICS contracts to include supplier compliance with the AI Cyber Security Code of Practice in line with DSIT specifications.
