AQW 28318/22-27 – School class sizes

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail any steps he is taking to reduce class sizes in (i) primary; and (ii) secondary schools, to ease pressure on teachers and improve learning outcomes.

Minister of Education: My Department delegates as much funding and decision-making as possible to schools, who are best placed to assess the needs of their pupils. It is a matter for each school’s Principal and Board of Governors to decide on individual class sizes, taking account of the school’s budget, its staffing complement, and the legislation and guidance in place which governs class sizes in our schools.
