Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail the criteria used by a moderation panel to decide whether a child with special education needs is (i) provided with resources, advice and guidance; or (ii) provided with teaching support.
Minister of Education: The Education Authority (EA) has advised that
The moderation process determines the extent to which an appropriate graduated response has been provided by the child’s setting, and the strength of evidence presented to indicate that EA support at Stage 2 is the next appropriate step.
Where Local IMPACT Team (LIT) support is deemed to be the most appropriate next step, the Request for Involvement will pass to the appropriate LIT specialist team member based on the child’s presenting needs.
The programme of offer available from a LIT will be delivered through a tiered model of support reflecting increasing intensity as the child/ young person moves through the stages of the Code of Practice.
