AQW 29616/22-27 – Newbuild projects: adequate water infrastructure

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail what newbuild projects under the remit of his Department are currently unable to proceed due to the absence of adequate water infrastructure.

Minister of Education: Currently, no new school build projects have been explicitly halted due to the absence of adequate water infrastructure. However, the capacity of existing water infrastructure, particularly wastewater infrastructure is a significant and escalating reason for delays in building new schools across Northern Ireland.

In addition, wastewater infrastructure issues have led to increased capital project costs for new school builds, including the installation of localised wastewater treatment systems, due to an inability to connect to the public wastewater network.
