SDLP Welcomes Resurfacing Work in Stewartstown

Local SDLP representatives have welcomed the start of resurfacing work along North Street, Stewartstown.

In June this year, the SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, contacted the Department for Infrastructure NI requesting an inspection of the road condition in the town. Following that inspection, the Department confirmed that resurfacing work would take place this year.

Speaking today Mr McGlone said, “The SDLP welcomes the start of the resurfacing work on North Street in Stewartstown.

“Earlier this year local residents contacted me with their concerns about the poor condition of the road surface on North Street.

“I raised those concerns with the Department of Infrastructure requesting an inspection of the road with a view to repairs being carried out.

“The resurfacing currently underway in Stewartstown is a direct result of the effective cooperation between local residents, the SDLP and the Department.

“We will continue to work with the Department of Infrastructure to ensure that this essential work is carried out as quickly as possible.

Local SDLP Councillor Malachy Quinn added, “The rural roads network is an important lifeline for local communities and is essential for the success of our rural economy.

“In the continued absence of a locally accountable Minister, the SDLP will continue to lobby for a properly resourced road maintenance programme to ensure that the rural roads network is maintained to the highest possible standard.”
