SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has said the long waiting times for MOT appointments currently experienced by motorists is unacceptable. The party is seeking an urgent meeting with the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) to resolve the issue.
Mr McGlone said, “The SDLP have requested an urgent meeting with DVA to put an end to the current MOT fiasco.
“On seeking an appointment for a MOT drivers are being told they will have to wait at least a month before one is available.
“Courtesy letters arriving 4 to 6 weeks before expiry are therefore too late to secure a connecting date.
“As a result, motorists are being left with significant gaps between the expiry of their current MOT certification and the first available appointments to retest.
“It is unacceptable to expect drivers to sit online all day in the hope of catching a cancellation that may only be available for 15 minutes – which is the only other alternative.
“The DVA must introduce measures to reduce the delays currently being experienced by motorists trying to book an appointment for a MOT.”
