Mid Ulster SDLP Congratulate Department for Infrastructure on Opening of A6

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has congratulated the Department for Infrastructure on the opening of the first phase of the new A6 dual carriageway. The Mid Ulster MLA together with party colleagues, Mid Ulster Council Chair, Martin Kearney, and Cllrs Christine McFlynn and Noreen McClelland, met with Department for Infrastructure Permanent Secretary, Katrina Godfrey, and Divisional Roads Manager, David Porter, at last week’s official opening of the first new A6 stretch to Toome.

Speaking afterwards Mr McGlone said, “Congratulation are due to the Department for Infrastructure for the successful completion of the first phase of the new A6 dual carriageway.

“As well as enhancing transport across Northern Ireland, the new A6 will provide a vital link for goods and services to and from the Mid Ulster area.

“The benefits will be seen for many years to come and, with the necessary support, will greatly improve the prospects of sustainable economic growth for rural communities.

“Those prospects remain threatened by the continued absence of the NI Executive, but the Department for infrastructure have played their part in delivering this phase of the new A6.

“We look forward now to the completion of the remaining phases of the A6 project and its full impact on the economy of the North.”
