SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone has written to Minister for Finance, Conor Murphy, to seek answers on targeted rates relief.
The Mid Ulster MLA said, “I welcomed the statement last week from the Finance Minister that he was working with colleagues at Ulster University, to develop a plan for further rates relief, on a targeted basis. We support rates relief to support businesses who are struggling to stay afloat as a result of COVID-19, but it is not a good use of public money to offer further relief to businesses who are making a huge profit in this context.
“We support the Minister’s endeavours to target relief in this regard but he must move more quickly to bring this in, or some businesses will not survive. I have submitted a priority written Assembly question to the Minister asking for a timeline on when this relief might become available. Businesses across the North cannot afford any further delay.”
