SDLP Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone joined Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon as she opened the final 5 kilometre stretch of the A6 Randalstown to Castledawson dualling scheme to traffic for the first time today.
Mr McGlone said that the opening demonstrated the SDLP commitment to regional economic and infrastructure balance and will form a critical transport corridor for the North West.
Patsy McGlone MLA said, “Before entering the Executive, the SDLP made clear that delivering regionally balanced infrastructure and investment opportunities was a strategic priority for our party. Throughout this year, Minister Nichola Mallon has proven our commitment to delivering for communities that have been left behind for far too long.
“The opening of the final stretch of the A6 Randalstown to Castledawson scheme is a big moment for local communities and commuters who are already seeing the difference in the quality of their journeys thanks to this investment. This scheme has also brought new jobs to the local community and I know that upgrading this critical North West transport corridor will create new opportunities for investment in the future.
“Local landowners and residents have been incredibly patient and understanding while the works have been completed. I will continue to work with them and with the Minister to address their issues and meet their concerns.
“This is how the SDLP delivers in government for the people we represent. I look forward to working with Minister Nichola Mallon to deliver for people across Mid Ulster.”
