AQO 2807/17-22 – Citizens’ Assembly

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister to outline which topic is being considered for the initial Citizens’ Assembly, as committed to in New Decade, New Approach.

First Minister and deputy First Minister: The decision on any matter to be examined by a Citizens Assembly will be taken by the Executive and will reflect both the proposals received and its consensus on what is the most significant issue on which the advice and recommendations of an Assembly should be sought. While we remain committed to enhancing civic engagement by this means, the considerable and detailed planning which must precede the establishment of a Citizens Assembly, suggests that it would therefore be premature to decide at this time what issue should be the focus of its deliberations.
