Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs whether any assessment has been made of the potential impact of the proportion of fertiliser that is imported, on food security.
Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs: All fertiliser used by the Northern Ireland agriculture sector is imported and therefore subject to world markets conditions which are outside the control of my Department. Nevertheless, my Officials continue to monitor fertiliser markets and are in regular contact with DEFRA. Any impact of potential restrictions in fertiliser supplies on food production is not expected to be immediate.
