SDLP Opposition Justice Spokesperson Patsy McGlone MLA has said further revelations about the operation of the ICRIR show the legacy body requires integral reform.
An independent review has raised significant concerns about the way the organisation is being run and its internal culture.
Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone said, “This is the latest in a series of serious concerns about the operation of the ICRIR and further evidence that its structures and governance are not fit for purpose. The SDLP has consistently warned that in its current form it cannot deliver the truth justice that victims and survivors deserve and this review only underlines that.
“Reports of a toxic working environment and poor staff morale do little to inspire confidence in the organisation’s ability to carry out its role effectively.
“There now needs to be significant reform of the ICRIR if it is to command any public confidence or carry out the work it was established to do. The SDLP has made that position clear repeatedly to the UK Government and victims and survivors must now be listened to instead of being failed by flawed legacy mechanisms.”
