Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Health to detail any steps he is taking to ensure timely access to mental health services for stroke survivors and their families.
Minister of Health: Access to mental health support is recognised as a core element of the stroke pathway, reflected in the Northern Ireland (NI) Community Stroke Service model and the Stepped Model of Psychological Care for Stroke Services.
Psychological and emotional support is delivered by various stroke professions including Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Clinical Psychology. Some stroke survivors, or their families, may then be referred to other mental health services in the statutory or Voluntary and Community sector.
