AQW 49714/22-27 – Impact of live facial recognition technology on privacy rights

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Justice to detail any recent assessment she has made of the potential impact of live facial recognition technology on privacy rights.

Minister of Justice: To date, the Department of Justice has not made any assessment of the potential impact of live facial recognition technology on privacy rights. The Department is not currently utilising this type of technology and should there be any plans to do so, the usual UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 privacy by design assessments will be undertaken in advance of any implementations.
