Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Health whether any assessment has been made of the potential impact of regenerative medicine techniques, such as cell therapies, growth factors, and bioengineered scaffolds, on surgical recovery.
Minister of Health: Clinicians, medical directors and relevant professional bodies across the Health and Social Care (HSC) are alert to advancements in this field of regenerative medicine techniques.
My HSC Research & Development Division have recently endorsed an all UK Capability Framework for Advanced Therapy Clinical Trials which launched on 20th May, International Clinical Trials Day.
This is a new national framework designed to support the standardisation and expansion of advanced therapy clinical trials. The Advanced Therapy Clinical Trials Capability Framework, produced jointly by the Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) network, the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and Skills for Health, provides a shared strategic resource to support decisionmaking across advanced therapy clinical trials service.
This will be an enabler of more cell therapy care pathways which might over time better equip our Trusts to be a part of such clinical trials.
