AQW 2273/22-27 – Flood control

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on all flood alleviation projects in Mid Ulster.

Minister for Infrastructure: The Moyola Flood Defence Rehabilitation Scheme which includes the removal of channel silt, aquatic weeds and dense vegetation, to facilitate the upgrading of existing flood defences is being taken forward in three phases. Phases one and two are complete. Phase three of the overall scheme, has been delayed due to presence of badgers on site but is expected to be complete by the end of this financial year.

In addition, my Department’s partner consultant Amey is currently progressing the Moyola River flood study. This feasibility study will look at the viability of providing flood alleviation measures within the entire Moyola catchment area. It is anticipated that the Moyola flood study will be completed during this financial year. My Department also plans to replace a 12 metre long 900mm concrete pipe on an urban watercourse where it crosses the Lissan Road, Cookstown during this financial year.
