AQW 2272/22-27 – Footpath weed control

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure (i) when his Department plans to commence footpath and roadside weed spraying in Mid Ulster; and (ii) how many times will this exercise be carried out this year.

Minister for Infrastructure: My officials have advised that our environmental contractor commenced weed spraying in Mid Ulster on Saturday 4th June.

The contracts managed by the Department operate on a performance (weed free) basis which usually requires an initial treatment by the contractor at the beginning of the season with subsequent treatments undertaken as required throughout the summer. This generally results in two treatments annually, however, the number of treatments is not specified but rather is based on need which can change from year to year depending on the level of weed growth which is often weather dependent.
