Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail the number of Nurture Groups funded by her Department in (i) primary; and (ii) post-primary schools in Mid Ulster.
Minister of Education: My Department currently funds one Nurture Group in Mid Ulster at Primate Dixon Primary School.
Funding is provided to primary schools only as the principles behind Nurture Group provision were developed to specifically address Social, Behavioural, Emotional, Wellbeing needs (SBEW) and attachment difficulties in young children.
All educational settings in Mid Ulster have access to the Nurture in Education Programme, which is delivered by the Education Authority. The programme is available to all primary, special, post-primary schools and Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) settings to allow staff to avail of training and support in nurture approaches.
