Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for his assessment of the (i) opportunities; and (ii) challenges for his Department in relation to the development of Artificial Intelligence.
Minister for Infrastructure: Artificial Intelligence has the potential to present exciting opportunities across my Department from assisting staff to do their administrative roles and improve how we provide sustainable services to citizens. We are assessing how we can use it to for example, monitor and predict maintenance of our infrastructure assets, and provide 24/7 customer services to answer queries and access services. The challenges Artificial Intelligence brings will need carefully managed, from ethical considerations, data privacy and security, validation of accuracy of algorithm outputs and the upskilling of staff to use Artificial Intelligence.
