AQW 42655/22-27 – Caoimhé’s Law

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Justice for an update on the development of the legislative provisions to prevent the unauthorised recording and sharing of photos of road traffic collisions.

Minister of Justice: As outlined during the Second Stage debate of the Criminal Justice (Sentencing etc) Bill, my Department does not have the capacity or resources to develop legislative provisions to prevent the unauthorised recording and sharing of photographs of road traffic collisions during this mandate.

However, if the Department for Infrastructure (which has lead policy responsibility for road safety matters), the Justice Committee, or an Assembly member wish to legislate on this matter during this mandate, my Department will actively support the development of any such proposals, in accordance with its responsibility to provide advice on the introduction of any new or amended offences and penalties within Northern Ireland.
