Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail the total cost to the public purse of landfill site (i) regulation; (ii) monitoring; and (iii) remediation, in each of the last five years.
Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs: Authorised landfill sites are regulated by a dedicated Waste Permitting Team within NIEA. This team is funded via a charging scheme which imposes subsistence charges on regulated sites. These subsistence charges fund the regulatory teams and as such there is no cost to the public purse.
