AQW 44296/22-27 – Inclusion of disability history in the national curriculum

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail any steps his Department is taking to help promote the inclusion of disability history in the national curriculum.

Minister of Education: My Department is currently developing a new curriculum framework for Northern Ireland. The new curriculum will provide clarity on what every child in Northern Ireland is entitled to learn and will act as a progression model, showing how learning builds over time.

A key principle underpinning the development of the new curriculum is inclusivity, with diversity designed into subject frameworks through the use of repertoire and examples. This will ensure that pupils encounter a wide range of peoples, places, histories and cultures beyond their own immediate experience, supporting a fuller and more accurate understanding of the world.
