Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, in light of increases in fuel costs, whether he has made any recent assessment of the benefits of using renewable sources to power all vehicles used by his Department and by any arm’s-length bodies.
Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs: My Department published its Fleet Decarbonisation Policy in September 2025 which sets a clear policy direction to reduce carbon emissions across our diverse range of vehicles. A key objective of the policy is to pilot and adopt clean technologies, through prioritising the use of electric vehicles and consideration of renewable energy sources such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). HVO will be trialled in specific DAERA fleet vehicles later this year as part of a pilot exercise which is intended to inform the potential for wider roll out.
