AQW 45949/22-27 – Awareness of contracting Meningitis B

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Health whether any recent assessment has been made of awareness levels among teenagers and young adults in relation to their risk of contracting meningitis B.

Minister of Health: The Public Health Agency (PHA) leads on the operational response to meningitis, working closely with the Department of Health. The PHA was closely linked into the UKHSA response to the Meningitis B outbreak in Kent in March. At that time the Agency met with the Departments of Education and Economy, the Education Authority and the two NI universities to provide advice and public health information.

Public health information and advice is available on the PHA website at: PHA statement – meningitis | HSC Public Health Agency and on NI Direct at: Meningitis | nidirect and the public have been urged to remain vigilant for the signs and symptoms of meningitis and to act fast if they suspect they may be symptomatic.
