Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether her Department has a designated lead or responsible officer on her Department’s use of Artificial Intelligence.
Minister for Infrastructure: The NICS adopted the Use of Generative AI Policy in June 2024. Under this policy, my Department’s Senior Information Risk Owner is responsible for approving all use of Artificial Intelligence within the Department.
The Senior Information Risk Owner is supported in this role by the Department’s Data Protection Officer, IT Security Officer, and a senior official from the relevant business area making the request.
Approval for the use of generative AI will only be granted where the Senior Information Risk Owner is satisfied that all data protection, privacy, information security, and ethical requirements and standards have been met.
While the Senior Information Risk Owner has responsibility for the use of generative AI, my Department’s Digital Services team is leading on its adoption and working with other NICS Departments to support value, consistency, and knowledge sharing.
