Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Health to detail any steps being taken to improve the efficiency of the methodology and outcomes of investigations of suspected cancer clusters by the Public Health Agency and the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry.
Minister of Health: When concerns are raised about a suspected cancer cluster, the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR), in conjunction with the Public Health Agency (PHA), analyses routinely collected cancer registry data in line with guidance produced by the United Kingdom and Ireland Association of Cancer Registries (UKIACR).
The NICR’s methodology for assessing and reporting on suspected cancer clusters is consistent with the approach used by national cancer registries across the UK and Ireland.
