Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for the Economy, pursuant to AQW 47278/22-27, whether any assessment has been made of the impact on local manufacturers of the British Government’s introduction on 1 July 2026 of new, reduced, quotas and increased tariffs on imported steel.
Minister for the Economy: My officials are in regular engagement with industry representatives in relation to this issue, including most recently at a meeting of my Tariff Working Group.
Information is being gathered and shared with the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, the Secretary of State and others as part of ongoing monitoring arrangements.
Where evidence demonstrates that these measures are creating difficulties for local firms, I will continue to press the British Government to consider appropriate changes.
