AQW 53862/22-27 – AI and integrity and security of public examinations

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Education to detail any assessment his Department has made of the implications of emerging artificial intelligence-enabled and internet-connected technologies for the integrity and security of public examinations.

Minister of Education: Any implications of emerging artificial intelligence-enabled and internet-connected technologies for the integrity and security of public examinations are being addressed through the ongoing work of awarding organisations, including the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA), working collectively through the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and closely with the respective regulators, CCEA Regulation, Ofqual and Qualifications Wales.

JCQ has published specific guidance, AI Use in Assessments: Your role in protecting the integrity of qualifications. This sets out the responsibilities of schools, colleges and awarding organisations in preventing, identifying and investigating AI misuse.
