Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any steps she is taking to help increase the capacity of wastewater infrastructure around Lough Neagh.
Minister for Infrastructure: The management of the public water and wastewater infrastructure is an operational matter for NI Water. I have sought further information from NI Water to inform the response to your question.
NI Water has advised that the total projected investment associated with improving capacity in wastewater assets around Lough Neagh as part of the current Price Control period, PC21 (2021/22 – 2027/28), is approximately £113.3m, of which an estimated £15.7m is profiled for 2026/27 and £7.9m is profiled for 2027/28. This investment programme includes upgrades to ten wastewater treatment works (WwTWs) in the area as well as wider network improvements.
Further investments will be subject to budget availability.
In order to support these investments and wider improvements in our wastewater infrastructure across the North, I am continuing to engage with Executive colleagues to secure additional investment for NI Water. I welcome the recent agreement by the Executive that investment in wastewater infrastructure be prioritised to unlock capacity and support development across the North.
