AQW 38485/22-27 – Completion of work on Maydown Bridge, Benbur

Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail a timeline for the completion of work on Maydown Bridge, Benburb, including a date for reopening.

Minister for Infrastructure: In the interest of public safety, my Department took the decision to close a short section of the Maydown Road in Benburb following the partial collapse of a retaining wall and section of carriageway during Storm Amy.

Due to the collapse exposing and undermining several utility ducts and cables, repairs to the wall and carriageway could not begin until all services were safely decommissioned and diverted. I am pleased to confirm that works to repair the wall and carriageway started in November and are progressing on site as planned. Subject to favorable weather conditions, the road is expected to reopen to traffic by mid-March.

I fully appreciate the impact of the closure and apologise to the local community, including businesses in the area, for the inconvenience caused. Local diversions are in place, and I urge the travelling public to drive with due care and attention and allow extra time for their journeys.
