Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Communities to detail any steps he plans to take to help support pre-pensioners with long-term health conditions in the context of increases to the State Pension age.
Minister for Communities: Depending on an individual’s circumstances, people of working age with long-term health conditions or disability, including those approaching State Pension age, may be eligible for a range of support through the social security system.
Personal Independence Payment is the primary disability benefit for people of working age, including those approaching State Pension age, who have a long‑term health condition or disability that affects their daily living and/or mobility.
For pre-pensioners who are receiving Universal Credit, those with long-term health conditions that affects their capability to work can receive the Limited Capacity for Work- and Work-Related Activity element if they are eligible.
