Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs whether his Department has used Artificial Intelligence to assist with drafting (i) legislation; and (ii) policy, in the last 12 months.
Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs: My Department makes use of artificial intelligence tools to support administrative tasks such as summarising reports, preparation and presentation of material for co-design workshops, assisting with developing documents, and to support initial consultation data analysis, however Artificial Intelligence has not been used to directly draft (i) legislation or (ii) policy, in the last 12 months.
All outputs generated with AI assistance are subject to appropriate human oversight, review, and approval by departmental officials in line with the DAERA Artificial Intelligence policy. Advice and guidance has also been provided to officials and published on our intranet to support the effective, responsible and secure use of AI within DAERA.
