SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster Patsy McGlone has welcomed the announcement of a date for the publication of the Review of NIE Connection Charges.
In the Assembly today the Economy Minister confirmed that the Review of NIE Connection Charges is expected to be published in June this year.
Speaking after the announcement on Tuesday, Mr McGlone said, “Following questions I previously raised with the Economy Minister, on the socialisation of NIE network upgrade costs and the connection charging framework, the Minister confirmed in the Assembly today that the review is now expected to be published in June.
“This is an important issue for many local businesses, farmers, developers and households who have faced enormous costs when trying to connect to, or upgrade, electricity infrastructure.
“In January the Department had indicated that changes were expected in the first half of 2026.
“I will continue pressing the Minister, NIE Networks and the Utility Regulator to ensure this review is finally delivered.
“We need a fairer system of connection charges that supports investment, rural communities and economic growth across Mid Ulster.”
