Mr Patsy McGlone (Mid Ulster): To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether her Department has used Artificial Intelligence to assist with drafting (i) legislation; and (ii) policy, in the last 12 months.
Minister for Infrastructure: The Department for Infrastructure does not hold information on the individual use of AI.
The Department has made Microsoft Copilot Chat, a secure enterprise-level AI assistant, available to all staff, alongside the more advanced, separately licensed Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, which has been provided to 109 staff across the Department. Search engines used by officials such as Google and Bing also have AI features embedded in them as standard.
While these AI tools may be used to support productivity by helping officials to find, analyse and summarise information, and to improve efficiency in daily tasks, responsibility for policy development and advice remain with officials.
All written material within the Department is subject to review, refinement and final approval in line with established governance processes.
